What is required to work as a locum in the UK?
You must have a relevant degree Bachelor of Social Work, Physiotherapy etc and be registered with the associate governing body, without this it will limit your choice and the grade at which you work.

What type of work is available?
As well as working in hospitals there are also a number of posts within the Social Services setting for Occupational Therapists and Assistants as well as Social workers. Those looking to broaden their skills and who enjoy the community approach are fully catered for throughout the London boroughs.
How long before I start work?
Provided you have the correct registration to work in the UK you can start work immediately you land in the UK, however without full registration positions are limited.
What can I expect to get paid?
Salaries vary according to experience, grade and specialty. A newly qualified candidate can expect an average weekly pay of approx £400.00 for a 36 hour week. Higher Grade Locums with the relevant UK experience can exceed this average.
How will I be paid?
Once you register with us, we can arrange for a bank account to be set up for you. We have an arrangement with Lloyds TSB Bank to simplify the procedure. Our introduction will enable you to open an account and be issued with a cheque book and cash point card within 7 working days. Your salary is then paid into this account weekly.
Where can I work and for how long?
PJ Locums offers a nation-wide service. For those Locums wanting to see some of the country we can provides posts from the tip of Scotland to the southern most part of England and all the surrounding counties in between allowing easy access to Europe.
What accommodation is available when on assignment?
PJ Locums have a preferred list of hotels and hostels that welcome the working holiday maker. The vast majority of hospitals do offer on-site accommodation at reasonable rates.
What if I don't like the job?
If after a discussion with your department manager you are still unhappy then notify us with a minimum of one weeks notice and we will find you another post.
What happens when I arrive?
A representative of PJ Locums can meet you at the airport and transport you to your accommodation.
Will I be required to wear a uniform?
In most disciplines a uniform is required, however your department manager will inform you of this before you start work.
Is my Police Clearance Certificate valid in the UK?
Yes. However you are required to register with the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) for a disclosure form after you have been in the UK for 6 months.
Do I have to provide specific documents?
In order to work in the UK you must have the following documents verified:
- Two most recent professional references
- Passport details page
- Visa
- Drivers License
- Proof of Address
- Degree
- Fit to work certificate from your GP
- Immunisations Certificates
